This is a nice little blog post for beginner seamstresses looking to find the motivation to get started in the sewing world. Colette suggests her own patterns to build up skill levels, and while I love that idea, I have said on here a bunch of times (and have had it co-signed by a lot of followers) that her patterns are built for a very specific body type that I dare say not a lot of us have (full in the bust, boxy from waist to hip). You will have to test her patterns out yourself to see if they work for you, and I would say that simple tops are more likely to fit various body types than other garments because of minimal shaping. But give them a try, and if you don’t think they will work for you, you can easily find patterns by other designers that incorporate the skills she is highlighting in this post (projects with pockets/zippers/shirring, etc).

Happy sewing!

Reblogging for friends who want to learn to sew. I’ve never used a Colette pattern because I’m too fat, so yeh it’s a bit harder trying to find or even adapt clothing patterns to fit if you’re larger than most pattern companies offer. Pattern grading: yet another advanced skill a fatty has to learn if they want to clothe themselves.

"…you will recognize me for I shall be the tall Black lady smiling.”

She lived so fully, I am not as sad that she is gone - as I am grateful she ever was. Rest In Power…

no no no

It’s wild that she describes herself through life as not being pretty. I think she’s gorgeous. Especially when she was acting and singing. But when Hollywood was looking for  Lena Horne and Marylin Monroe, I can see her feeling that way after being described as being too black

When men say that they “love to see the woman underneath the makeup,” they’re not saying they want to see your leg stubble and greasy bangs—they’re saying they want you to be better at hiding your maintenance routine. Because the maintenance spoils the fantasy.

Still the People’s Champ.

The Rock has been my hero since 1997 and I just don’t see it changing any time soon.

I just…could you imagine waking up to this everyday. Like. I’m cry.

Every time this comes across my dash, I need to reblog this.

Because The Rock is PERFECT.
